　　We are not used to haggling over price. 我们一向不讨价还价。

　　We never haggle about principle. 我们决不拿原则作交易。

　　handful n. 一把，少数

　　When the employer arrived，the secretary handed him a handful of letters. 老板一到，秘书就交给他一叠信。

　　They invited a dozen companies，but only a handful of them came. 我们邀请了十几家公司，但只来了少数几个。

　　hire vt. 租用；雇用

　　同义辩析：hire let rent lease

　　都含“租用”或“出租”的意思。

　　hire 有“雇”、“短期租借”的意思，如：

　　hire servants 雇佣人。

　　hire a hall for an evening 租礼堂用一晚上。

　　let 指“出租（房屋、地产等）”，如：a house to let 出租的房屋。

　　rent 指“较长期地租用或租出（房屋、土地等）”，如：rent a house租房子。

　　lease 指“按租期、 租金、 租约租赁（房屋、土地等）”，如：lease a piece of land租赁一块土地。

　　heap n. 堆，大量，许多；vt.堆，堆起（与up，together连用）

　　A heap of old clothes was lying in the corner. 一堆旧衣服堆在角落里。

　　We have heaps of / a heap of work to do. 我们有许多工作要做。

　　He heaped up great wealth. 他积累起大量财富。
